The Return of the Spoonbill Sandpiper

"This first-of-its-kind project, brought together 15 aspiring, emerging, and established Vietnamese illustrators came together in a two-week course featuring one-on-one mentoring from UK literacy experts Pop Up Projects and Viet Nam publishing house Nhã Nam. In addition to empowering Vietnamese illustrators with hands-on training, this project has also forged a collaborative network between publishing houses and universities while the new illustrations drew inspiration from the work of climate activist Trang Nguyen."

UK/ Vietnam Season | British Council

In early September 2023, I had a chance to learn with 15 other artists from all over Vietnam in Complex 01 Tay Son, Hanoi. More info can be found here (Vietnamese). We learned so much from Art Director Jane Buckley and Illustrator Jan Fearnley. I made new friends and they also helped me open new perspectives along the creative process. It's wonderful to spend time creating beautiful children's book illustrations with everyone and feel the same love and spirit yet different techniques and unique styles.

"The Return of the Spoonbill Sandpiper" is a story by climate activist Trang Nguyen.
